Agloe, NY (2023 - ongoing)
A collective portrait of Agloe, a town invented by mapmakers that came to exist in the real world and then disappeared again.
Through a variety of visual strategies - photographs, ephemera, archival materials, video interviews - the work examines the ‘documentary’ image in post-truth America. All images were made, found or fabricated in the region where Agloe once stood - Sullivan County, New York.
Between past and present, fact and fiction, ‘Agloe, NY’ probes the limits of representation by taking Baudrillard’s advice literally:
“What you have to do is enter the fiction of America, enter America as fiction”.
