The Specifics (2025 - ongoing)

An ongoing collaboration with Laurène Messeca, a young Parisian woman who will soon be clinically blind.

The project brings into dialogue images from two distinct yet interconnected sources: On one hand, a selection from over 14,000 of Laurène’s personal phone photos, and on the other, photographs - taken at her direction - of the places, faces and details of her neighbourhood, that she will soon be unable to see.

Between the vernacular and the lyrical, the personal and the universal, the work is a reflection on the role images play in contemporary life and an invitation to recognise the quiet privilege of being able to see the world that surrounds us.

“Photography, more than any other art, is tied to the use of specifics—concrete examples that are believable as individual facts. Through attention to these specifics, photography can reveal a wider coherence in life, helping to reconcile us with the world.”

- Robert Adams (1981)
